Joomla Jumpstart Workshop
LOCATION: Manchester School of Technology, Manchester, NH
ATTENDEES: Liane Haslauer (host), Kathy Lombard, Donna Chick, Bill Lord, Justin Herrin (lead presenter), Lee Parmenter (presenter), Celeste Guidice, Lois Wolter, Jim Kennedy, plus the 15 Joomla newbies who signed up for the workshop.
SUMMARY: Our first workshop, what a hit! Most of the workshop attendees were from various New Hampshire school districts. Lee gave a brief introduction to the "behind-the-scenes" workings of Joomla, PHP, MySQL, and Apache servers. Justin gave a quick slideshow presentation, which focused on some of the important aspects for newcomers to Joomla, and then jumped right into the workings of the Joomla administration backend. Time was definitely a hard thing to come by, as many topics were left uncovered... what did we expect with trying to cram a hands-on Joomla workshop into 2 hours?!?!
There is already talk of doing another workshop, perhaps even a full day dedication, instead of an evening. We learned a lot from our first workshop and we'll have all the kinks worked out before the next one rolls around.
Presentation Slideshow and Downloads
Below is Justin's slideshow presentation and down in the attachments area of this post you can find Lee's documents.
The alignment of the SCAM tables is off on slides 8, 9, 10 & 11 (nasty conversion issues when going from Google Apps to .ppt to SlideShare)
Next Meeting
Our next user group meeting is scheduled for December in the Exeter area. Keep watching the website for details coming soon.
